'Downton Abbey' Opens at No. 1 Movie With $31 Million

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “Downton Abbey” is now a hit on the big screen as well, as Focus Features' adaptation of the popular British TV series opened atop the box office this weekend with an estimated $31 million.

The space drama “Ad Astra” starring Brad Pitt was in second place with $19.2 million Friday through Sunday at North American theaters, according to Comscore.

Third place went to another film making its debut, “Rambo: Last Blood,” which took in an estimated $19 million.

“IT Chapter Two” was fourth with $17.2 million, followed by “Hustlers” with $17 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “The Lion King” ($2.5 million), “Good Boys” ($2.5 million), “Angel Has Fallen” ($2.4 million), “Overcomer” ($1.5 million) and “Hobbs & Shaw” ($1.4 million).
