FULLERTON (CNS) - Campus police patrols were beefed up today as authorities searched for a suspect in the rape of a Cal State Fullerton student in an elevator of a parking garage.

The woman was sexually assaulted in an elevator just about midnight in the Nutwood parking structure, said Cal State Fullerton police Capt. Scot Willey.

When the doors opened again, she pushed her attacker off and ran to safety, he said.

The suspect was described as a white man about 25 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds, with brown, shoulder-length hair and blue or light green eyes, Willey said. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and black shorts.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call campus police at 657-278-2515; or if they see the suspect, call 911. Students may also call that number to get an escort, Willey said.

There are no surveillance cameras on the elevator or in that area, so police were scanning other nearby cameras to see if the victim was followed, Willey said.

Campus police have beefed up patrols with help from officers from other universities in the California State University system, Willey said.

Sexual assaults of this type are “extremely rare” on campus, he said.
