LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A hot Labor Day weekend is expected to usher in a week of high temperatures, with the mercury peaking today, according to forecasters.
Excessive heat warnings are in effect until 8 p.m. in the mountains and the Antelope Valley, and heat warnings in effect in the other valley areas as well with triple-digit highs expected in some areas.
Santa Clarita's high is expected to reach 105 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service.
Highs will stay in the mid- to upper 80s in the greater Los Angeles area throughout the week, with the valleys staying in the 90s.
In Orange County, temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees in some inland county areas this week.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms over the mountains and Antelope Valley this week, with morning low clouds and fog along portions of the coast. Otherwise, there is little relief in the forecast until next Saturday, when temperatures are expected to drop between 2-5 degrees, according to the NWS.
