Man Arrested in Series of Arson Fires in Studio City

FRANCE-POLICE

STUDIO CITY (CNS) - A man was arrested for allegedly setting 11 arson fires in the Studio City area today that targeted vehicles and trash containers.

The latest fire was reported at 6:15 a.m. in a trash container outside 11365 West Ventura Blvd., said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“A string of fires ... are being investigated as possibly linked together as a single arson case,” Prange said. “Fire companies are staying on scene of the various auto fires, rubbish fires, and this reported structure fire -- that turned out to be a dumpster fire behind the address.”

Ten other fires had been set in the general area beginning at about 4 a.m., LAFD Capt. Erik Scott said.

The suspect was detained as a “person of interest” in the case, and was later arrested, Scott said. His name was not immediately released.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. Personnel from the LAFD's Arson/Counter Terrorism Section were assigned to the investigation.
