SUN VALLEY (CNS) - Police searched this morning for relatives of a 2- year-old girl found wearing only a diaper inside a Sun Valley home where a murder-suicide had occurred.

Officers went to a home in the 11200 block of Covello Street, near Fair Avenue, about 7 p.m. Monday after receiving a shots fired call and found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds and a man with a gunshot wound to the head and gun was recovered, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

After a search of the home, officers found the child unharmed and took her to the LAPD's North Hollywood Division, Lopez said.

“She was in a very secure playpen with toys,” LAPD Valley Bureau Homicide Lt. Mike Kozak told reporters at the scene. “She looked well taken care of. She didn't seem to know what was going on, obviously at that age they really don't know what's going on.”

The names of the dead were not disclosed. The woman was in her 30s and the man in his 60s, according to media reports.

The relationship between the deceased was not immediately available.
