Four Tons of Marijuana Discovered in Jalapeño Shipment

US Customs and Border Protection agents made a hot catch while inspecting a shipment of jalapeños coming into port last week.

K-9 officers at the Otay Mesa cargo facility in San Diego sniffed out almost four tons of marijuana mixed in with the peppers, estimated to be worth around $2.3 million.

Otay Mesa Port Director Rosa Hernandez thanked CBP for their work in a statement saying:

"Not only did they prevent the drugs from reaching our community, they also prevented millions of dollars of potential profit from making it into the hands of a transnational criminal organization."

Earlier in the week, officers at the same location were also able to catch more than 10,000 lbs of pot hidden in auto parts.
