A heavily armed man wearing body armor caused chaos at a Walmart in Springfield, Missouri. The 20-year-old suspect walked into the store and began pushing a shopping cart through the aisles. A manager saw the man and pulled the fire alarm.
As people were evacuating the store, an armed off-duty firefighter noticed the suspect and pulled out his gun. He detained the man until police arrived. No shots were fired and nobody was injured.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dmitriy Nickolayvich Andreychenko. He was armed with a "tactical rifle," a handgun and had over 100 rounds of ammunition. He reportedly recorded himself walking through the store.
He was taken to Greene County Jail and is facing charges of making a terroristic threat in the first degree.
Police say they are still trying to determine the motives for the man's actions.
"His intent was not to cause peace or comfort to anybody that was in the business here," Springfield police Lt. Mike Lucas told the Springfield News-Leader. "In fact, he's lucky he's alive still, to be honest."
The incident comes less than a week after a 21-year-old shooter killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.
