LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Highs will remain in 3-digit territory today in some valley areas of L.A. County, and temperatures will fall little over the coming days but nonetheless will be close to normal, forecasters said today.
The National Weather Service forecast a combination of partly cloudy and sunny skies in L.A. County today and highs of 74 at LAX; 79 in Avalon; 86 in Long Beach; 87 in Downtown L.A.; 88 on Mount Wilson; 92 in San Gabriel; 94 in Pasadena and Burbank; 99 in Saugus; 102 in Woodland Hills; and 103 in Palmdale and Lancaster. Woodland Hills is forecast to hit 98 degrees Tuesday. Palmdale and Lancaster will be only one degree lower than today.
Tuesday's highs will be a degree or 2 lower and decline similarly on Wednesday. But by Sunday, highs will be back at today's or Tuesday's levels. Still, Tuesday's levels will be close to normal for July, meaning today can be described as the last day of the Southland's third heat wave of Summer 2019, said NWS meteorologist Curt Kaplan.
He said today's temperatures will not be as high as had been expected because the ridge of high pressure aloft is a little weaker than had been anticipated as it affects the L.A. area. Desert areas such as Riverside County's Coachella Valley, however, remain exceedingly hot.
Sunny skies were forecast in Orange County today, along with highs of 74 in San Clemente, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach; 84 in Santiago Canyon; 87 in Irvine; 88 in Fullerton and Ortega Highway at 2,600 feet; 89 in Mission Viejo; 90 in Yorba Linda, Anaheim and Fremont Canyon; and 91 in Trabuco Canyon. Twmperatures will decline by about a frhree Tuesday and remain at that level at least through Sunday.
