Southwest is known for its low-cost flights, open-seating, and flight attendants who don't take themselves too seriously.
So, it's not a complete surprise to see video of a Southwest flight attendant who crawled into a plane's overhead bin while passengers were boarding an aircraft in Nashville, Tennessee. Some passengers were shocked by the display, while others chuckled at the odd sight. Video posted to Twitter by one passenger, showed the flight attendant smiling and lying down in the overhead bin before the flight departs for Atlanta, Georgia.
"Is this a dream @SouthwestAir?," passenger Veronica Lloyd wrote on Monday. "I can’t get over how weird I find this. @SouthwestAir please get it together."
The flight attendant was talking with the other passengers from the compartment. Lloyd says the flight attendant eventually got down and got back to work.
Lloyd tagged Southwest in her post, which as you can imagine, got the attention of their customer service center, who tweeted back, asking for more information about the flight.
One Twitter user stepped up to defend the flight attendant, saying they shouldn't fire her and they only needed to make sure she was stored properly so other people's carry-ons could fit.
Officials with Southwest issued a statement about the viral video.
"Southwest Employees are known for demonstrating their sense of humor and unique personalities. In this instance, one of our Flight Attendants attempted to have a brief moment of fun with Customers during boarding. Of course, this is not our normal procedure, and Southwest Crews always maintain Safety as their top priority."
