Netflix Is Giving 'Lucifer' Six More Episodes For Its Final Season

Netflix has one helluva surprise in store for Lucifer's last season.

The streaming service recently announced the fifth and final season of the supernatural crime drama, which was slated for a 10-episode finale, will now include six more hours of content. Netflix announced the big news via Twitter, tweeting, "Season 5 just got a HELL of a lot better — and bigger! We've added six more hours, for a grand total of 16 episodes!"

While bittersweet, this means Lucifans will have more time to spend with Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) before giving one final farewell.

As you know, the series originally aired on Fox in January 2016 up until the network canceled the show after three seasons in May 2018. Netflix picked up where its predecessor left off in response to the wave of enthusiasm for the show's revival and unveiled its fourth season exactly one year later. In June, it was announced Lucifer would end with Season 5.

However, given the boost in episodes, it's possible fans won't be able to binge-watch the entire season in one sitting as before. According to International Business Times, given the added content, Netflix might release Season 5 in parts, or with a "mid-finale break."

Executive producer Ildy Modrovich has remained mum about how all the episodes will be executed on the streaming giant, though it's believed the six extra episodes may cause Netflix to consider an alternate press method for the finale.
