Lane Closures Near LAX Begins Tonight for Construction on Airport Facility

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Installation of a new Los Angeles Department of Water and Power duct bank for the United Airlines East Aircraft Maintenance Hangar project will require overnight lane closures starting tonight on Century Boulevard between Airport Boulevard and Avion Drive, east of LAX, according to airport officials.

The work begins at 10 p.m. Monday and ends at 6 a.m. daily through Friday morning for the eastbound portion, and runs 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the westbound lane. Beginning next week, work will be performed five nights a week, Sundays through Thursdays.

The project is scheduled to continue until Sept. 30.

Work will only take place on Sunday through Thursday nights.

Two eastbound or two westbound lanes will be closed during construction, and guests and airport employees are advised to allow extra time or use alternative routes to enter or exit LAX during work hours.

The maintenance hangar project is billed by LAX as a ``state-of-the- art facility'' that will house 23 aircraft, with technology allowing plane engines to be powered down during maintenance, reducing emissions.

Duct banks are groups of conduits designed to protect and consolidate cabling to and from buildings.
