Riverside County May Be Getting Toll Roads on 91, 60, 215 freeways

Riverside County may be getting toll roads added to the 91, 60, and 215 freeways in the near future. A road building agency is in the works to spend $1.4 million to find out how much it'd cost to extend some highways and add toll lanes to others.

Commission’s deputy executive director John Standiford states that they are “just trying to get a better idea of what the future holds.”

The 91 freeway in Corona is up for extension consideration and tolls could be added to the 60 and 215 freeways in Jurupa Valley, Riverside and Moreno Valley.

One plan is for most highway locations to convert carpool lanes into express ways, used by ride sharers and single drivers (toll-payers). In addition, a new lane would be added on to each side of the highway providing two express lanes in each direction.

The reason for the toll lanes aren't to assist with freeway expansion either. They are merely to assist the transportation agencies in funding their other "creative projects".

“But — and this is a big but — the public needs to get something out of it,” said city councilman Wes Speake. “You can’t take something away from the public and not give them something in return.”

Roll outs are being planned for 2020.
