Burglary Suspect Arrested After Barricade in South L.A. Apartment

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A burglary suspect was arrested today after leading police on a vehicle chase to the South Los Angeles area, where his SUV crashed and he ran off and barricaded himself in a nearby apartment for several hours.

The chase began about 3:30 a.m. near Jefferson Boulevard and San Pedro Street and ended near of 65th Street and Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said they found a firearm in the vehicle.

A SWAT team was sent to the scene and contacted the suspect, but he refused to come outside. Meanwhile, police learned that a child was in the residence, according to reports from the scene.

At 8:35 a.m., the suspect surrendered to officers, and a 2-month-old child believed to be his was safely removed from the residence, police said. The child and the child's mother were reunited at that time, police said. No injuries were reported.

The man's name was not immediately released.
