Trump Denies E. Jean Carroll's Sexual Assault Claim

President Trump Signs Executive Order For New Sanctions On Iran

President Donald Trump categorically denied the allegations of sexual assault made against him by famed Elle magazine advice columnist, E. Jean Carroll, saying that she was "totally lying" after Carroll accused the president of raping her during an encounter at a New York department store in the mid-90s.

In an interview with The Hill on Monday, Trump denied the incident ever happened.

“I’ll say it with great respect: Number one, she’s not my type," Trump said in an interview from the Oval Office. "Number two, it never happened. It never happened, OK?”

Carroll, who has worked as an advice columnist for Elle magazine for more than 25 years, detailed her allegations against the president in her new book, "What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal." She noted that the book is not about Trump and only contains the description of the incident she says took place in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the fall of 1995 or spring of 1996.

“Totally lying. I don’t know anything about her,” he said. “I know nothing about this woman. I know nothing about her. She is — it’s just a terrible thing that people can make statements like that.”

Carroll was being interviewed by Anderson Cooper on CNN when she was informed of Trump's response.

"I love that I'm not his type," she said.

"He's denied all 15 women who have come forward. He denies," she told CNN's Anderson Cooper on "AC360." "He turns it around. He threatens and he attacks."

Carroll first described the incident in an excerpt for New York Magazine published last Friday, saying she encountered Trump at Bergman Dorfman in an initially friendly encounter after he recognized her as "that advice lady." Carroll replied by saying she recognized him as "that real-estate tycoon" and they stop to chat for a brief moment. Trump tells her that he's there to purchase a gift for a girl and he wanted her advice on what to buy. She says she agreed, and the pair made their way to the lingerie section.

Carroll says it's when they get to the dressing room area that things took a violent turn. She says Trump shoved her against a wall inside a dress room, pulled down her tights, and began "forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis half-way - or completely, I'm not certain - inside me."

Carroll, now 75, has been an advice columnist for Elle for several years and was a feature guest-writer for other magazines like Playboy and Esquire. She says she never reported the attack to police, but told two friends about her encounter with Trump at the time.
