EL SEGUNDO (CNS) - Police in Salt Lake City today sought to locate a 23-year-old woman who went missing after returning to that city from a trip to El Segundo.
Mackenzie Lueck, a senior at the University of Utah, returned to Salt Lake City on June 17 and took a Lyft vehicle from the airport to an address in North Salt Lake, where she was last seen in the early morning hours, police said.
Police have begun a missing person investigation and have questioned the Lyft driver who gave Lueck a ride. Both the driver and Lyft are cooperating in the investigation.
The Lyft driver, who did not deviate from the prescribed route before dropping Lueck off, handled several rides soon after and has been ruled out as having any involvement in her disappearance, according to news reports.
“The SLCPD has not discovered any information that would lead us to believe that Mackenzie has been harmed in is in danger at this time,” according to a police statement. “Detectives are concerned for Mackenzie's welfare.”
Police in Utah say Mackenzie was taken by the Lyft driver to Hatch Park, where she met, apparently willingly, with another person in a car.
That is the last time she was seen.
Adding to concerns about Lueck's well-being is the fact that since she was last seen, she has missed a return flight to California, where she was to attend a wedding, according to a media report.
If Lueck is not in any danger but simply does not wish to be contacted, police are hoping she will call and let them know.
Meanwhile, anyone with information about Lueck or where she may be was urged to call a special tip line established by Salt Lake City police at 801-799-4420.
