Get Ready For Another Gas Tax Increase, California

Get ready to pay more for gas...

Yet another gas tax increase will hit California drivers this summer, starting July 1. It will raise the gas tax from 41.7 cents, to 47.3 cents per gallon.

This is a yearly increase thanks to the 10-year tax that was passed by the state Legislature back in 2017. That deal aims to tax drivers in order to bring in $52 billion for state transportation projects.

Another change coming next month will be over exactly who has authority over the gas taxes. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration will be taking over next month, relieving the Board of Equalization.
