Woman's Body Found in Santa Ana Apartment

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A woman in her 20s was found dead of an apparent homicide inside her Santa Ana apartment today, and a person of interest -- possibly her husband -- was taken into custody after a chase that ended in a traffic crash and foot pursuit.

The woman's body was found by relatives around 7 a.m. inside the apartment in the 1000 block of South Standard Avenue, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

A cause of death was not released, but Bertagna said, ``Based on the evidence it appears she's the victim of a homicide.''

Police obtained a search warrant for the woman's apartment, and her family was giving detectives details about her life history, Bertagna said.

Police tracked down a person of interest, but when detectives tried to pull him over in his Volkswagen Passat he hit the gas and led police on a chase through the city, into Anaheim and back to Santa Ana, where the pursuit ended with the driver rear-ending a truck at Dyer Road and Grand Avenue about 11:45 p.m., Bertagna said.

The man jumped out of the car and tried to get away on foot, but police arrested him nearby, Bertagna said. KTLA5, citing officers at the scene, reported that the man is the dead woman's husband. There was no word on what might have precipitated the slaying.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to the police station for questioning, Bertagna said.
