'Avengers: Endgame' Holds Onto Box Office Lead

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “Avengers: Endgame” overcame a strong challenge from the opening of “Pokemon Detective Pikachu” to remain atop the box office heap this weekend, taking in $63 million Friday through today at North American theaters, according to industry estimates out today.

The latest installment of the Marvel franchise has now made more than $723 million domestically in its three weeks in theaters, and has a good chance to become the highest-grossing film of all time.

“Pokemon” opened with $58 million for second place.

In third place was “The Hustle,” starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, which opened with $13.5 million.

Fourth place went to “The Intruder” with $6.6 million, followed by “Long Shot” with $6.1 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Poms” ($5.1 million), “Uglydolls” ($3.9 million), “Breakthrough” ($2.4 million), “Tolkien” ($2.1 million) and “Captain Marvel” ($1.8 million).
