'The Curse of La Llorona' Leads Box Office With $26.5M

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The horror film “The Curse of La Llorona” opened in first place at the North American box office this weekend, taking in more than $26.5 million at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to industry estimates released today.

“Shazam!” took second place in its third week of release, with another $17.3 million Friday through Sunday, according to Comscore.

Third place went to the faith-based film, “Breakthrough,” which opened with $11.1 million.

“Captain Marvel” was fourth with $9.1 million, followed by the comedy “Little” with $8.4 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Dumbo” ($6.8 million), “Pet Sematary” ($4.8 million), “Missing Link” ($4.3 million), “Us” ($4.2 million) and “Hellboy” ($3.8 million).
