Four Arrested Following High-Speed Pursuit From L.A. to Monterey Park

MONTEREY PARK (CNS) - Four people were in custody this morning, including one suspect who evaded authorities for nearly three hours after a high-speed chase that started in Los Angeles and ended at an apartment complex in Monterey Park.

About 11 p.m. Wednesday, officers spotted a vehicle near the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway and National Boulevard that was believed to be connected to an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver briefly exited the freeway, then returned to the eastbound Santa Monica Freeway toward downtown Los Angeles and continued at speeds of between 70 and 85 mph until exiting on Atlantic Boulevard in Monterey Park, then pulling into an apartment complex near Atlantic Boulevard and Hellman Avenue.

Two women in the vehicle were quickly taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers, but two other suspects ran off. One was arrested near a water fountain in a shopping center adjacent to the apartment complex. The fourth suspect escaped a perimeter and officers searched a neighborhood near Ramona Road and Ninth Street for almost three hours before he was found about 2:25 a.m., according to CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.

At one point during the pursuit, the suspects threw items out of the vehicle onto the freeway near the National Boulevard onramp, NBC4 reported. It was unclear what those items were.
