LAPD: Man Shoots Woman, Self In Chatsworth Home; Young Children Unhurt

CHATSWORTH (CNS) - Police today were investigating an apparent murder- suicide at a home in Chatsworth where the deceased couple's two young children were present, but unharmed.

Officers responded about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to a call of shots fired in the 9100 block of Foster Lane. They ``entered the residence and discovered a male and a female deceased in the upstairs bedroom, both due to gunshot wounds,'' according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.

The preliminary investigation revealed the husband, 46, shot his 38- year-old wife as she lay in bed before shooting himself, police said.

Their two young children were not physically injured but ``were admitted to a local area hospital for observation,'' police said, adding that both tots were placed in the custody of the county Department of Children and Family Services.

The identities of the youngsters' parents were withheld pending family notifications.
