'Shazam!' Opens With $53M To Lead Box Office

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The superhero movie “Shazam!” opened with more than $53 million at the box office this weekend to lead all films, according to industry estimates out today.

Second place went to another film making its debut, the remake of Stephen King's “Pet Sematary,” which took in an estimated $25 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to Comscore.

Disney's live-action “Dumbo” remake was third with $18 million.

The horror film “Us” was fourth with $13.8 million in its third week in theaters, followed by Disney's “Captain Marvel” with $12.6 million in its fifth week of release.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “The Best of Enemies” ($4.5 million), “Five Feet Apart” ($3.7 million), “Unplanned” ($3.2 million), “Wonder Park” ($2 million) and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” ($1.9 million).
