LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “Us,” writer/director Jordan Peele's horror follow-up to his 2017 directorial debut, “Get Out,” posted the second-best opening weekend of any film this year, taking in $70 million Friday through today to lead all films at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to industry estimates out today.
Disney's “Captain Marvel” finished second with an estimated $35 million in its third week in theaters.
The animated family film “Wonder Park” was third with $9 million, Comscore reported.
“Five Feet Apart,” a young-adult romantic drama, was fourth with $8.7 million, and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” followed with $6.5 million.
Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral” ($4.5 million), “Gloria Bell” ($1.8 million), “No Manches Frida 2” ($1.7 million), “Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” ($1.1 million) and “Alita: Battle Angel” ($1 million).
