Three Bombs Sent To London Airports, Rail Station

Security personel stand guard outside a police cordon at Waterloo Station, central London on March 5, 2019, following a report of a suspicious package at the station. - Three small improvised explosive devices were found at buildings at Heathrow Airport, London City Airport and Waterloo train station in what the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command said was being treated as a 'linked series'.

Authorities in the United Kingdom say that three explosive devices have been found near two London airports and a major train station. According to Scotland Yard, one of the small bombs went off in an office building near Heathrow Airport causing a small fire. The airport was not affected and no flights were canceled but authorities evacuated the office building as a precaution. Nobody was injured by the explosion.

A little over an hour later, police received a call that another suspicious package had been mailed to the Waterloo railway station. Authorities responded and made the device safe. About 30 minutes they were called about a third parcel that was sent to an office building next to the London City Airport.

Scotland Yard says they are treating this as a terrorist incident. The Independent is reporting that the explosive devices were sent in packages which had Irish postage stamps on them. The two packages that did not detonate appeared to be addressed by hand by the same person, using the same pen.

“The packages – all A4-sized white postal bags containing yellow Jiffy bags - have been assessed by specialist officers to be small improvised explosive devices,” a spokesperson said

Officials are continuing to investigate the incident and have warned people to be on the lookout for similar packages.
