State Legislators to Unveil Bill Regulating Gun Shows at Del Mar Fairground

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Assembly members Todd Gloria, D-San Diego, and Tasha Boerner-Horvath, D-Encinitas, will announce legislation today that addresses the sale of guns and ammunition at gun shows held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Gloria and Boerner-Horvath will hold a news conference to discuss the bill along with Del Mar City Councilman Dwight Worden and Rose Ann Sharp of the gun control group Never Again CA. The cities of Del Mar, Encinitas and Solana Beach have all passed resolutions calling for stricter gun control and an end to the Fairgrounds' gun shows.

The Crossroads of the West Gun Show came under fire from local residents and gun control activists last year following gun violence around the country. The state's 22nd District Agricultural Association Board of Directors, which oversees the Del Mar Fairgrounds, voted 8-1 in September to suspend the shows until concerns about improper gun and ammunition purchases could be ironed out.

The Fairgrounds held the last Crossroads of the West Gun Show Dec. 8 and 9.

Gloria, Boerner-Horvath, Worden and Sharp will unveil the bill today at 10:30 a.m. at the San Diego State Building.
