Michigan State President: Nassar Victims are "Enjoying Spotlight"

Interim Michigan State University president John Engler has angered sexual abuse victims after making an incredibly offensive comment.

When speaking to the Detroit News editorial board about the victims of former Michigan State University/USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, he said some victims are "enjoying the rewards and recognition" of being in the spotlight.

Engler's comments came shortly after the university announced it would reopen funds to cover counseling for abuse victims of Nassar.

The former team doctor has since been sentenced to 40 years for his crimes.

A university trustee released an email calling Engler's comments "completely inappropriate and distasteful."

Engler was already met with protests when the university revealed he would become interim president in June after longtime president Lou Anna K. Simon resigned over the controversy.
