LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The latest film from the Harry Potter universe, “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald,” opened in first place at the North American box office this weekend, taking in an estimated $62 million Friday through Sunday in theaters in the United States and Canada, industry figures showed today.
In second place was “Dr. Seuss' The Grinch” with $38 million in its second weekend in theaters.
Third place went to “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $15.7 million.
“Instant Family” was fourth with $14.7 million, and “Widows” was fifth with $12.3 million; both films opened this week.
Rounding out the top 10 releases in the U.S. and Canada, as estimated by the studios and reported by comScore, were “Nutcracker And The Four Realms” ($4.7 million), “A Star Is Born” ($4.3 million), “Overlord” ($3.8 million), “The Girl In The Spider's Web” ($2.5 million) and “Burn The Stage: The Movie” ($2.3 million).
