Bandaged Man Carrying Knife on California Freeway Not Halloween Prank

A man with bandages covering his face who was spotted walking down a busy freeway in Los Angeles while carrying a knife was NOT playing a pre-Halloween prank, authorities say.

Video of the unknown man walking down the 10 Freeway in Southern California was posted to Instagram by Lisa Shields, who told Fox 11 it looked like a "walking dead scenario."

"This is just a bizarre coincidence like walking dead scenario. this guy is in the middle of the highway - even if it is a prank, he is not mentally sound," said Shields.

Shields says she took out her cell phone and began recording the bizarre scene as traffic crawled along the busy Southern California freeway. As she pulled alongside him, she noticed that his eyes were closed.

She called 9-1-1 soon after who told her that they were aware of the man and they had picked him up. Police told her that the man was mentally ill and had been taken back to a local hospital.

Shields wasn't the only one to capture video of the strange sight on Halloween. Another user on Reddit uploaded video to YouTube that showed the man ripping off the bandages on his head.

The man was taken to Marina Del Rey Hospital and placed on a 72-hour hold. So far, authorities have remained mum on the man's identity.
