5 Officers Shot In South Carolina

Five law enforcement officers were shot Wednesday evening during an active shooter incident in Florence County, South Carolina according to a report from WMFB. One of the officers has passed away, Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutchen said. 

Three Florence County, South Carolina, deputies and two city officers were shot according Florence County Sheriff's deputy Chief Glenn Kirby said. 

Reports of a female deputy being shot during an active shooter situation started coming in at around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. 

The officers were shot while responding to an active shooter incident, which is now over with the suspect in custody, the Florence County Emergency Management said in a tweet

The active shooting situation is over and the suspect is in custody. We are asking everyone to stay away from Vintage Place as there is still an active crime investigation in progress.

The incident occurred in Vintage Place, just off Hoffmeyer road county emergency management officials said. 

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott tweeted his support for the victims and their families. 

"Prayers with injured officers in Florence and their families."
