Mayor Of Small Texas Town Kills 580-Pound Gator (With One Shot)

Ever heard the saying 'don't mess with Grandma'? Well, please don't mess with this Grandma...

Judy Cochran, also known around town as the mayor of Livingston, Texas, shot and killed an alligator last  Sunday night. She was at her ranch in Goodrich, Texas when she said handlers caught the gator and told her she could shoot it if she wished...

"We think this is the gator that ate one of our miniature horses several years ago, as big as this gator was, he could've easily eaten it,"Cochran said. "Typically the gators don't bother us, but we've been looking for (this one)."

It was a 12-foot gator and weighed in at 580 pounds. She shot and killed it. With ONE shot. This grandma' ain't messin' around...

But because Cochran is an elected official, she wanted to make sure the public knew her kill was ethical.

"There are a lot of requirements to kill a gator in Polk County," she said. "We're one of 12 counties that has a hunting season for alligators, between Sept. 10 and 30. You have to have a permit and tags from a wildlife biologist, and you have to catch it on a hook first. We don't just go to the ranch and hunt a gator."

Interestingly enough, this is the same place where her 5-year-old grandson killed a gator 20 times his size back in 2009. Read that wild story here.

Cochran said she plans on mounting the gator's head in her office, and using the meat to feed her family.
