A woman was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a brief standoff that began after a body was discovered in the backyard of a home in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers received reports of a woman in dark clothing attempting to dispose of a body in the 800 block of 173rd Street Wednesday morning.
Gardena police responded to the call and discovered the body of a man who appeared to have been dead for awhile. A homicide investigation was launched, authorities said.
News reports from the scene showed what appeared to be a body wrapped in black and placed on a dolly. The body was positioned over a wall, as if it were about to fall into a wash located behind the home.
The woman refused to leave the home, forcing a standoff with police. SWAT officers were called in to assist with the incident.
The unidentified woman surrendered to police around 12:30 p.m. and was taken into custody by the LAPD.
