Picture this press conference:
A large folding table is topped with bags of drugs spread out in front of cameras while a police spokesperson announces their latest bust is the biggest one in the state's history.
But it wasn't quite what it seemed to be....
Let's rewind a bit:
A North Carolina sheriff's office seized what they believed to be 13 pounds of fentanyl, with a field test even confirming the catch.
But when they got the alleged drugs to the lab, their haul, which could fetch $2 million on the street, melted.
Yup, like ice cream on a summer's day...just gone.
Turns out the police found "a combination of simple and complex carbohydrates," otherwise known as ordinary table sugar.
If you're curious, the street value of that would run you about.......$8.
