San Diego Senator Apologizes for Threatening Female Lobbyist

Senator Joel Anderson is apologizing now for harsh words he used during an altercation with a lobbyist at a fundraiser on August 13.

The San Diego-area lawmaker allegedly threatened female lobbyist, Stephanie Roberson with the California Nurses Association, at a steakhouse in Sacramento.

The LA Times reports that Anderson was quoted telling Roberson “you better shut up before I bitch slap you.”

According to the report, Anderson and Roberson got into the argument at the fundraiser where guests were served and consuming alcohol.

Anderson was allegedly removed from the restaurant after the incident.

“I sincerely regret my word choice that was not directed at her. I welcome the Rules Committee investigation to clear up this misunderstanding,” Sen. Joel Anderson said in a written statement Tuesday.

Anderson has served two terms in the state senate and one term in the state assembly in San Diego County.
