Wildfire Threatens 2,000-Year-Old Juniper Tree

The oldest juniper tree in the United States had a close call due to the Donnell Fire burning in California’s Sierra Nevada.

The Bennett Juniper, named after naturalist Clarence Bennett, is believed to be at least 2,000 years old!

The fire is burning in the Stanislaus National Forest and was just a half a mile away from threatening to engulf the landmark tree over the weekend.

Thankfully officials now say that firefighters have managed to stop the blaze from destroying the famous tree.
