Major Explosion on Highway Near Bologna, Italy Leaves At Least 56 Injured

Italian police said a major explosion on a highway near Bologna, Italy has left at least 56 people injured, and a bridge partially collapsed. Footage from the scene posted to social media showed enormous plumes of black smoke smoldering until a fireball explodes, shooting into the sky. 

Italian news agency ANSA reported that authorities believe the explosion was accidental when a truck transporting flammable substances exploded when it got into an accident.  Italian firefighters tweeted that they have sent multiple rescue and emergency crews to the fire, including one from their urban search and rescue team. 

NBC News reports that a truck delivering cars/vans was also seen going up in flames. 

A bridge at the scene has also partially collapsed. 

Some of the people were injured after being hit by flying glass when windows in nearby buildings blew out.
