Shooting Deaths Investigated In Gardena and Lynwood

GARDENA (CNS) - Authorities searched today for a gunman who shot four people -- two fatally -- in Gardena and in Lynwood.

A woman was killed in the first shooting, which occurred about 4 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 135th Street in Gardena, said sheriff's Lt. John Corina. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.

Two other people, described only as a male and a female, were wounded at that location, and were hospitalized in critical condition, the county fire department reported. Reports from the scene indicated that one of the surviving victims was a pregnant woman.

Police closed 135th Street between Raymond and Budlong avenues while an investigation was conducted. Sheriff's homicide detectives were assisting Gardena police in the investigation.

About 4:40 a.m., a man was found shot to death near the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard onramp to the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Lynwood, Corina said. His name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.

According to reports from the scene, the suspect carjacked a couple and fatally shot the man, leaving the woman and the fatally wounded man at the freeway onramp in Lynwood, and then fled in their vehicle.

Authorities believe the suspect knew all of the victims, including the couple who were carjacked, Corina said.

"We're not sure if this is like a drug-fueled binge this guy's going on ... using methamphetamine or something like that; or is he just enraged at people and he's taking it out on his friends,” Corina told Fox11. ``These are people he knows.”
