Gunman Escapes Despite Perimeter Search Near USC Campus

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A perimeter search today in the Adams-Normandie area of Los Angeles failed to ensnare a gunman who exchanged shots with Los Angeles police officers, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Sunday at 29th Street and Normandie Avenue, Sgt. Greg Garcia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Station said.

No officers were struck by gunfire, Garcia said. It was not known whether the gunman was wounded.

The gunman had carjacked a vehicle from a woman and crashed it, the sergeant said.

Officers established a search perimeter but did not find the gunman in a six-hour search, Garcia said.
