Church Vandalized in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A landmark Roman Catholic church was vandalized overnight in North Hollywood, authorities said today.

The vandalism at St. Charles Borromeo Church at Lankershim Boulevard and Moorpark Street was discovered about 4:45 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Investigators are seeking the suspect or suspects, who caused ``extensive” damage to the interior of the church, the LAPD reported. The damage was estimated in the thousands of dollars, and included broken windows.

The multi-agency House of Worship Task Force was involved in the investigation, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters sent to the location on a report of a rubbish fire outside the building extinguished the flames, saw an open door, discovered the vandalism inside the building and notified police, the LAFD reported. A fire also was reported in a trash container in the general area.
