Georgia Cops Flip Coin To Decide If They Should Arrest Woman

A woman in Georgia is demanding that the two police officers who arrested her lose their jobs after body camera footage showed the officers putting her fate in the hands of a coin flip app. Sarah Webb was pulled over by Officer Courtney Brown for allegedly going over 80 miles per hour on a wet road.

As Brown approaches Webb's car she apologizes for speeding and explains she was driving to work. Brown tells her that driving at such a high rate of speed on the wet road is "reckless driving." She takes Webb's license, registration, and proof of insurance back to her car, just like she would with any other traffic stop.

But, what happened next is not part of a normal traffic stop. Body cameras captured the conversation between Brown and Officer Kristee Wilson, as they discussed whether to arrest Webb.

Brown admits she did not have her radar gun on, but Wilson suggests that her body camera would have captured the speed she was driving to catch up with Webb.

That's when Brown pulls out her phone and opens up a coin flip app. The two decide that if the app shows heads, they will arrest Webb, but if shows tails, they will let her go.

“A [arrest] head, R[release] tail,” Wilson said.

“OK,” Brown replied.

“This is tails, right?” Wilson asked.

“Yeah, so release?” Brown responded.

“23 [the police code for arrest],” Wilson replied.

“Michael Jordan?” Brown said while laughing. “All right, so I’ve got too fast for conditions, reckless…”

Webb was taken into custody and charged with going too fast for conditions and reckless driving.

Webb had no idea officers had used a coin flip to decide whether she should be arrested until she was contacted by 11Alive. The charges against her were thrown out, the two officers were placed on administrative leave as internal affairs investigate their actions.
