Beverly Hills Police K-9 Dies From Cushing's Disease

BEVERLY HILLS (CNS) - The Beverly Hills Police Department today announced that a K-9 trained exclusively for narcotics detection has died.

Jinx lost his battle to Cushing's disease Friday, the department reported.

Cushing's disease, one of the most common endocrine disorders that affects dogs, occurs when a dog's body overproduces cortisol or when a dog is given corticosteroid medications at high doses and/or over a long period of time.

The endocrine system is a collective system of glands that produce and secrete hormones in the body.

Jinx served from September 2009 to March 2014 and was the only dog assigned to the field division at the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's Los Angeles office.
