Demonstrators protested Monday morning over the separation of families under the federal immigration policy for illegally crossing the U.S. border. Several of them were arrested during the rally outside of an ICE detention center in downtown L.A.
The protesters were arrested for unlawful assembly after police ordered them to disperse near the entrance of the Metropolitan Detention Center. L.A. City Councilman Mike Bonin was among those arrested and addressed the crowd of demonstrators before getting taken away in cuffs.
"Our government is inflicting knowing, intentional trauma upon the most innocent and the most vulnerable," Bonin said into a megaphone.
