Viewing Parties to Be Held For South Korea-Sweden World Cup Game

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Viewing parties for today's South Korea-Sweden 2018 FIFA World Cup game will be held in Koreatown and the former Olympic Auditorium.

The parties for the 5 a.m. game will be at the grass lawn outside Wilshire Park Place at 3700 Wilshire Blvd. and the Glory Church of Jesus Christ at 1801 S. Grand Ave. near downtown Los Angeles.

South Korea is 57th in the rankings compiled by FIFA, soccer's international governing body. Sweden is ranked 24th.

The game will be Sweden's first in the World Cup since 2006. Sweden was the runner-up to Brazil in the 1958 World Cup, which it hosted, and third in the 1994 tournament, which was held in the U.S.

South Korea is playing in its ninth consecutive World Cup and 10th overall. Its best finish was fourth in 2002 when it was the co-host with Japan.

Sweden is 2-0-2 against South Korea, in a series that began with Sweden's 12-0 victory in the 1948 Summer Olympics.

South Korea is known both as the Taegeuk Warriors, from the Korean form of the Chinese term Taiji, meaning “supreme ultimate,” and the Reds, for the color of their uniform.

A watch party organized by the Los Angeles Football Club for the Belgium-Panama and England-Tunisia games will be held at Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica.

The Belgium-Panama game is set to begin at 8 a.m. and the England- Tunisia game at 11 a.m.

All six teams will be playing their first games in the tournament.
