Garcetti to Appear on `The Daily Show'

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is in New York, where he will be appearing on ``The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.''

The mayor's office did not provide specifics of Garcetti's trip, saying only that he would be out of the state until Wednesday morning. His office declined to even say where he was traveling, but Garcetti is listed on ``The Daily Show'' website as the scheduled guest for Tuesday.

The appearance is his second out-of-state trip for a national talk show and comes as he is openly exploring a presidential run in 2020. He was in Boston last week attending a mayoral environmental summit and the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. He has already made political trips this year to New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina.

Garcetti delivered a commencement speech in New Hampshire -- traditionally the first primary election state -- in May at Southern New Hampshire University's College of Online and Continuing Education. The speech marked his second visit to New Hampshire in 10 months.

He has also traveled to South Carolina -- a key early primary election state -- for a meeting of the nonprofit Accelerator for America advisory council. He also met with local residents and politicians during the trip.

Garcetti has also traveled to Iowa for some political appearances. Iowa holds the nation's first presidential caucuses.

Politico reported that Garcetti held a secret meeting with Barack Obama when the former president was in Los Angeles in May. The meeting was one of nine Obama has secretly had with potential 2020 contenders to give them advice and guidance, according to Politico.
