When you're a doctor you expect to be able to take SOME time off, right?
Think again, a doctor's work is never done.
Dr. Erich Voight is an ear, nose and throat surgeon in New York and he was relaxing at home one day about a month ago watching HGTV's 'Beachfront Bargain Hunt'.
Yep, you heard me, he was watching, 'Beachfront Bargain Hunt.'
No judgement.
Well, he's watching the show, he sees the woman featured on the show, 'Nicole' and spotted something unusual, a lump on her neck.
Now Dr. McGuinness says it's likely no one else noticed it, but since he's trained for these things, he knew exactly what the issue was and that it could be a serious problem for her.
But he had NO idea what the woman's name was, the show only mentioned her first name and that she was from North Carolina.
So he asked his Facebook friends for help and posted the following.
Well, behold the power of social media!
Somehow, they found out who the woman was, 32-year-old Nicole McGuinness of North Carolina.
The two connected and Dr. Voigt let her know she needed a sonogram and biopsy. Nicole was already a survivor of brain cancer and she said her doctors never noticed the lump in her neck. So she went to a specialist who diagnosed her with Thyroid cancer.
She's currently undergoing treatment and is so thankful to Dr. Voight for his sharp eye and expertise. (Someone needs to talk to her own doctors about how they missed it!)
Nicole told ABC News.
"It's just a miracle in my opinion that he happened to see this on TV. I can't express how grateful I am."
