IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — A sports utility vehicle has struck a family of four in Irvine, killing the mother and seriously injuring the others.
The SUV apparently went out of control and plowed into the pedestrians at around 8 p.m. Wednesday, jumping a sidewalk path and winding up in some bushes. Fire officials say a 45-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were taken to hospitals.
Police later said the woman had died. Fire officials tell City News Service that the driver of the car was not believed to be seriously injured.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the driver was arrested.
