Trump to Cut Billions in Federal Spending, Targets CHIP

President Trump is calling for a $15 billion cut in federal spending, aimed at easing the deficit but will also target the Children's Health Insurance Program, CHIP.

Trump's proposal would cut $7 billion from CHIP, which helps low-income families with child health care.

However, the White House says the $7 billion being cut is money that was budgeted but never spent, and therefore won't affect the program.

The "rescission" proposal would cut from more than 30 programs if approved and would be the single largest rescission proposal in history.
