California Wants 5 million Electric Cars by 2030

Electric-car sellers will have to get it in gear to meet state goals. The specialized car has become a lot more common in California than other states. Gov. Brown’s executive order requires five million electric cars by 2030. International Council on Clean Transportation spokesman Nick Lutsey says about 400 thousand no-emission vehicles are on the roads now.

"There's still a long way to go to get from something like 400 thousand electric cars in California today, all the way up 5 million electric cars in 2030."

But he says the current growth rate should make the goal of 5 million electric vehicles pretty doable. The group is calling for more regulations to make that happen.

A survey shows that electric cars are selling 8 times faster in California than in other states.
