Getting Ready For Prom Season With The Dad Podcast

Prom Night

Prom season is here!

I'm sorry.  If you're a parent, I don't think I got the tone right.  Let me try again.

Prom season is here *DUNH! DUNH!! DUNHHH!!!*

First, let me start by quelling a fear.  More than likely, your child is not going to lose their virginity at prom.  Unfortunately, that's because a lot of them have already had sex by the time their prom night comes around.  Sorry...

In all seriousness, though, teen sex is on the decline.  A recent study discovered that high schoolers are having sex at the lowest rate since 1988.

Now, the real issue is drinking and driving.  A recent study found that at least 31% of teens will drink alcohol or do drugs on prom night.

Justin Worsham of The Dad Podcast believes that this is where parents really need to focus their energy.

"Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 80’s, but prom was always about dancing and the nervousness of whether or not you would have sex.

But, it seems that parents today don’t have to worry about that. Teen sex is on the decline.

The real issue seems to be car accidents and alcohol. With the teen alcohol related fatalities being at their highest between April and June.

My father would never have popped for a limo on prom night, and for sure didn’t, but if you wanna get some insurance for your kids safety, that may be the best investment. The average limo on prom night is $450, which seems like an easy call to make to ensure that your kid is safe."
