Dodgers to Honor 1988 World Series Champions During Alumni Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Dodgers announced today they will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1988 World Series champions during Alumni Weekend May 11-13, with 16 members of the 1988 team expected to participate in the weekend's festivities and the Alumni Game on May 12.

Kirk Gibson, whose ninth-inning pinch-hit home run gave the Dodgers the victory in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series, and 1988 World Series MVP Orel Hershiser are among those expected to attend.

The other members of the 1988 team expected to attend are Steve Sax, Mickey Hatcher, Rick Dempsey Tim Leary, Tim Belcher, Dave Anderson, Mike Davis, Jose Gonzalez, Ricky Horton, Jay Howell, Alejandro Pena, John Shelby, Franklin Stubbs and John Tudor.

Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda is also expected to attend, along with five members of his 1988 coaching staff -- Joe Amalfitano, Mark Cresse, Ben Hines, Manny Mota and Bill Russell.

The Alumni Game will also feature appearances by Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax, Steve Garvey, Fernando Valenzuela, Don Newcombe, Ron Cey, Maury Wills, Eric Karros, Tommy Davis, Rick Monday, Reggie Smith, Shawn Green, Kenny Landreaux, Jerry Hairston Jr., Rick Honeycutt, Jay Johnstone, Dave Roberts, Jerry Royster, Derrel Thomas, Darren Dreifort, Al Ferrara, Jose Vizcaino and Steve Yeager.

Batting practice for the Alumni Game will begin at 3 p.m., with introductions at 4 p.m. and the game at 4:15 p.m., which precedes the Dodgers 6:10 p.m. game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The alumni will pose for pictures and sign autographs before all three games during Alumni Weekend.
