Training for a marathon can be intimidating. Sore heels, blisters, and pulled muscles are all part and parcel of making it the 26.2 miles.
But, for those who aren't even ready for a 5k, they may want to look into this Facebook event in Boerne, Texas, that has caught the attention of underachievers everywhere. Instead of training for 26.2 miles, how does training for 0.5K sound?
The Boerne .5K is set to be held on May 5th and will benefit the Blessings in a Backpack organization, which helps provide food on the weekends for elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry. According to organizers, the race is a "very fun, tongue-in-cheek event that will lampoon the typical 5k."
Runners who arrive early for the start of the race will receive a free pint of beer. The action then moves to a brewery where participants receive another free pint of beer. Other stops include a coffee and donut station located halfway between the 526 yard course, as well as a designated smoking area for anyone who may want to stop for a break.
Organizers say race finishers get their own "retentious oval Euro-style 0.5k sticker that you can attach to the rear window of your car to show everyone what a cool hipster you are," t-shirts, and participation medals.
Sadly, the race is sold out, but, they are offering anyone the chance to pretend as if they went the distance. Organizers are offering a "Procrastinators Prize pack" for $25, allowing anyone to pretend they too conquered the .5K with everyone else.
Organizers say they expect the event will come back again next year.
